Technology and environment
Society's interest in environmental protection is increasing and Cheminova optimises the production technology and establishes environmental plants. Cheminova's production and development are characterised by a continuous technological development and expansion of capacity of the production plants. This development increased in the 1970's when the product portfolio of organophosphate insecticides also was extended. The production processes were refined, with production in closed systems, continued production and dedicated plants. This way, an extensive capacity and production stability was guaranteed. In the mid 1970's Cheminova established a research department with the purpose of identifying and developing new molecules – both intermediates and active ingredients. Whereas the attempt to launch of new molecules was not successful, the activities founded the basis of the later development of the most active pyrethroid in the world – gamma-cyhalothrin. During the 1980's Cheminova established a large biological waste water treatment plant, which in particular reduced the discharge of phosphor containing compounds in waste water significantly. Furthermore an air incineration plant was also established. The process air is treated at high temperature and washed before it leaves the smokestack. The company was granted apprehensive approval by the environmental authorities in 1988.
