Head smut (Sphacelotheca reiliana) is a significant disease in maize. A previously unheard-of high level of control of head smut is seen after application of flutriafol formulated as a microgranule.
The best control is normally observed when the soil application of microgranules is combined with treatment of the seed. After this combined treatment the disease control is greater than 96 per cent.

A very high yield is often the result of a microgranule treatment with flutriafol at sowing.
Below are listed the results of a trial conducted in France where treatment with flutriafol resulted in an extra yield of 59 hkg/ha, and if the treatment was combined with a seed treatment the yield increased by 67 hkg/ha.
