Tizca® and Zignal® are the Cheminova brand names for products based on fluazinam.
Fluazinam is a preventative fungicide from the pyridinamine group that was introduced in the 90s and quickly established itself as a new standard for the control of blight caused by Phytophthora infestans in potatoes.
It has a multi-site mode of action and has strong persistence of effect against blight. The fungicide can suppress secondary infection in the field through inhibition of sporulation.
There is no resistance known in blight populations and there is also no cross-resistance to other commercially available fungicides. For blight management, a spray programme with seven-day intervals between sprays is typically recommended.
Cheminova has developed its own production process and will start the production at its own plant in Denmark in 2008.
