Rufast®/Rufast Avance®/Orytis®/ Ardent®/Jokari® (acrinathrin)

Acrinathrin is a non-systemic insecticide and acaricide belonging to the modern family of light-stable, synthetic pyrethroids. The compound was discovered in 1983 and was marketed for the first time in 1990 in France. Since its introduction, the compound has gained an important position within thrips control.

Acrinathrin is registered in numerous crops world-wide. Today, acrinathrin is considered to be the bench mark insecticide against Frankliniella occidentalis – a growing problem on high-value crops such as fruit, vegetables, ornamentals and grapes. Apart from thrips, acrinathrin is also used for control of codling moth, oriental fruit moth, leafhoppers (Empoasca spp. and Scaphoideus spp.) and different mite species.

Acrinathrin is a unique pyrethroid being the only pyrethroid possessing the chemical structure in a cis-configuration around the double bond. It’s also the only pyrethroid with an carboxylic ester moiety in the vinyl-part of the acid.

Thanks to the unique chemical structure of Acrinathrin, the compound is highly specific in its spectrum of action, it is highly selective on key crops and offers superior efficacy against, in particular, thrips and mite species in comparison with other modern pyrethroids.

Acrinathrin has a favourable toxicological profile and combined with its selective properties it is one of only very few pyrethroids accepted in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programmes.

Acrinathrin products are available exclusively from Cheminova.
